Vermont Law School, founded in 1972, is one of a handful of independent, private law schools in the United States and is the only law school in Vermont. VLS offers a strong and varied Juris Doctor curriculum, experiential programs, and a nationally recognized environmental program in law. The school also offers a Master of Studies in Environmental Law for lawyers and non-lawyers alike, and two post-J.D. degrees, the LL.M. in Environmental Law and the LL.M. in American Legal Studies (for international students). VLS is dedicated to educating students in the understanding, skills, and values needed for private practice and public service. Emphasis is placed on developing professional responsibility and judgment, together with respect for the dignity of all people and the integrity of the natural environment.
